Keith P. BURNETT
Lauréat 2008 CAPSQ(médaille d'argent, réalité figurative)
I began studying the fundamentals of drawing and painting in 2001, following a longstanding interest in fine art I have been painting full time since 2005 and have not looked back. The process has been a journey of discovery and experimentation, formed on a basis in realism, evolving to more impressionist, expressive work and now moving toward abstraction.
I work in oils for several reasons. I enjoy the vibrancy of colour, the textural effects that can be achieved with a flexible slower drying medium and the ability to work with numerous layers of translucent glazes. It is the ability to use colour and flows to create movement and depth that I find most rewarding. I strive for each piece to express a distinctive mood. With constant adjusting and reworking, the pieces take shape and grow in intensity over time; the process is fluid and dynamic.
I have explored a number of areas of interest with respect to subject matter. At present my emphasis is on larger scale florals, be it the powerful presence of a solitary flower that pulls you deep into the center or a grouping that captures a delicate interplay flowing between them.
My hope is that viewers will take part in each piece as they are drawn in, perhaps capturing glimpses of their own memories, emotions and experiences.
